Transformers

Dry-type transformers specified against the harmonic profile of the real load, not the nameplate.

Modern loads are not linear. Variable-speed drives, switch-mode supplies and LED drivers push distortion back onto the distribution system, and a transformer specified as though they did not exist runs hot, loses efficiency and ages early. Access specifies transformers against what the load actually does.
