Air Delivery Systems – A Technical Overview

Moving air is a little bit like technical alphabet soup with lots of letters and no sense. Constant Air Volume (CAV). Single Zone VAV (SZVAV). Continuous Reset Single Zone Control (CRSZ). Change over Bypass (COBP). Variable Air Volume (VAV). Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). If they all are a means for moving air, then when, and why, is one way better than another.

In March 2019, Johnson Controls published a comprehensive technical overview of air movement, when to use what system and why to use it. What makes one more cost effective over another? Which air delivery system is more energy efficient? What sensors are needed and where should they be placed? Is a VFD a good choice for your application?
